Injured Animals

What your choices are if you see an injured stray on the road in Fukuoka.

Choice 1) If it is evening have a Japanese friend call the emergency duty VET number 092-272-1028. On holidays/ Sundays, call 0120-127974 between 10am and 5pm. At other time, you just have to find the nearests animal hospital, there is no central number.

SOME vets (we don`t have numbers for you) MAY reduce their fees if they believe the animal really is not your pet and you are not trying to con them or abuse their goodwill. On the other hand, some won`t. They have costs too of course, so be reasonable.

Choice 2) Call the animal control centre on 092-691-0131/092-891-1231 The animal will be collected and may well be put down. Use only as a last resort, in the case of cats in particular.

Finding a home:

you can probably get away with looking after an injured cat or dog for a few days in almost any apartment if you are discreet. There is a volunteer group on 092-738-1151 who MAY be able to help you find a home for the animal.

Explain that your visa will expire soon, and you may have to leave the country.

Be polite but persistent.®
