The Canadian Camp Riding Club is about 2km from Munakata Shrine, an hour`s drive east of Fukuoka. The club is just off the road and offers both Canadian ("western") and British
style riding to both casual riders and members.
As is usual in Japan, most riding is done within the largish paddock, but, almost uniquely, it also offers trekking in the surrounding countryside, although only in the company of CCR staff.
Mostly trekking is available only to members, but for just 12,000 yen casual riders can do what looks to be a thoroughly enjoyable course lasting about half a day (known as "the full day course") that includes lunch.
This gives 1.5 hours riding; a 1/2 hour intro lesson in the the paddock followed by an hour on or around the nearby very picturesque beach.
Helmets and boots appear not to be compulsory, loose jeans, trainers and a cap are recommended... You will be part of a group, but have full control of the horse.
Conclusion: We think the beach course is probably excellent value for money and are planning to go!
