Fukuoka Bajikohen is the oldest riding centre in Fukuoka, opening 45 years ago. Kimura-san, the owner, clearly loves horses, loves people, and loves putting people on horses.
Within 20 minutes of arrival to take pictures both the GFB staff - complete beginners, were up on well behaved horses and being lead around the large paddock. After some basic training on a lunge rein we were sent off un-lead. And a lot of fun it was too - we decided we liked the no-nonsense, sensible "get `em riding" approach that was tailored to the confidence level and abilities of each rider.
Situated up in the hills, we loved the peacefulness of the place, the cats and dogs lounging around, and the palpable love of horses. The staff were friendly, helpful and communicative. We were told the horses were "race horse type". It is NOT possible to ride outside the paddock.
Go-Fubar says: The station pickup and ticket system make this probably one of the most convenient ways for casual riders in Fukuoka to get a bit of riding. It is quite affordable if you go just once or twice a month. We will go again.
