Di Mare is out in Imajuku - not the likeliest of places for decent European food: so what`s so special about it?
Well - It`s got BAGS of atmosphere and character and is an absolute delight inside - southern European farmhouse is the overall effect, with dark polished wooden floors and lots of nooks and crannies. (Authentic? Ah - authenticity - what art thou? But yes, in its own terms.... But frankly if you are looking for an authentic Italian Farmhouse restaurant out in the wilds of the Japanese countryside, you may just want to reconsider some basic geographical assumptions.)
It`s purpose built (partially by the staff themselves as far as we can see from pictures on their website) in a fine and well tended garden. It`s spacious too, with several semi open plan rooms and good, solid comfortable furniture - so there are places to hide away for a quiet romantic meal if you want to.
The menu changes daily and the food is excellent with proper attention paid to the ingredients. Oh - and they aren`t ketchi with the wine, which is priced reasonably.
Waiter Cuteness ("Kakkoi") Rating? - 3 and a half out of 5 we think... Handsome young men clad in black serve discreetly.
Who to go with? It`s romantic enough for lovers, but any size group of any age, including kids, will love it.
Recommended.
